BUSINESSES PROPOSALS & OPENINGS

The PEACH Property
On our the property we are very lucky to have a number large old homes and cottages, several built by Sears Roebuck in the 1920s, 30s and 40s. Most of these homes are in very good condition. We have made these dwellings available to members of our full time staff, and a few are being used for businesses and workshops. We are in the process of naming each house. On the 1st floor of the old classroom building is an area we have designated for businesses: The Apothecary, Kořeny Stengel Duilleog Fleur Medicinal Plants, the Four Winds Co-op and Bakery, and the Four Seasons Café. At the far end of the classroom building are the kitchens and cafeteria. As you approach the main building, there is a small farmhand’s bunker which has been converted into the lovely Tè Chay Tea Room and Confectionery. Outside the north end of the property through the woods lay an old Swan Factory which has been converted to our new incandescent light bulb, lamp and glassblowing business managed by our master glassblower, Michael Owens. Next door is a small shop that was once the local hardware store, this is now the bike repair shop and soon to be  ice-skates and cross-country ski rental during the winter months. There is also a small gym attached to the back of the woodworking, blacksmithing and pottery workshops. The gym has a changing area with lockers and a row of showers and what looks to be a small former weight room. On the far side of the workshops is a graphics and small print shop. About 40 yards from the workshops is a beautiful large home which was once used by the custodian, it is now the dwelling of the man who manages 5 acres of gardens and animals, our farmer Johanna Huber. There is also a bit of land on the western edge that runs up against the forest where there are plans to build a dance studio, two classrooms, offices and dressing rooms. At the far east end across the road there is a very large home that houses our cordwainer and bookbinders, and a small cottage that is currently our community thrift shoppe.  Behind these properties is a field at rest, with a spring in the center and a large draping willow looking for a swing. There are plans to build 14 homes around the spring for those who wish to take up permanent residence.

Cygnus Bicycle Co-op & Ski, Skate and Snow-Shoe Shop
This All Season Bicycle Shop runs on grants and generous donations through our online and local community efforts. The Shop collects older used bicycles and gets them up to snuff. For a small yearly fee, or through time-banking [beebux], residents and members are allowed to work on their own bikes any time during shop hours. There are also classes and shop time devoted to helping adults and children learn about building and restoring bicycles. After a number of dedicated hours working on the repair and restore process, any member will be able to keep the bike they build or restore. Anyone working in the shop must take a Rules and Safety course offered the 1st Saturday of every month.

We have several people on staff who are very interested in this mode of transportation as a hobby and building as a pastime. There are also a few folks working on electric and gas powered bikes as well. If the Bike Shop interests you, check the schedule, there are demonstrations every month throughout the year.

We accept all donations of bikes and bicycles part.  What we can’t use will be recycled and disposed of properly. If you have a mechanical mind, this is the place for you to volunteer and do some time banking.

There is a free air hose on the side of the building and mental box with patches, glue, wrenches, instructions, paper, pen and a can of mineral oil. Please leave a note in the shop’s mailbox if you ever use the metal box after hours.

The Ski, Skate and Snow-Shoe Shop is open during winter months, See Worker Owned Businesses for more information.

Tè Chay Tea Room and Confectionery
Tè Chay Tea Room & Coffee Confectionary Café is a bright, cozy tearoom, coffee and sweet-shop. Overlooking the flower garden and woodland creatures, feel free to sit indoors or out on the connected porch. Soft classical music plays in the background, fresh flowers and draped tables cloths create a lovely atmosphere to study or quietly read. Have a hot cup of tea or coffee, treat yourself and a friend to a few slices of warm fresh bread with Irish butter along with a variety of homemade confectioneries made in our kitchens. Save special events, the tea-room works to create a quiet place for people who like to read or just zone-out for a while after a busy day.

Every evening Tè Chay opens the closet, there are chess and other board games, a night of poetry, candlelight conversations, Sunday duets and trios, trivia, the epic book club meeting, and conversations with the authors. The public is welcomed, but some tables are reserved in the evenings. Check the schedule.

Tè Chay Honey Candy
Tè Chay makes its famous honey candy. Honey is from the PEACH bee hives. The candy is shaped like bees and honeycombs. Not super hard, and it melts in your mouth, then a bust of real honey spills out. Pure honey or chocolate. Comes in a tin shaped like a honeycomb. A thoughtful, yummy treat.
