Apothecary
Kořeny Stengel Duilleog Fleur Medicinal Plants

Preparations and Clinic: Dr. Daphne Rousseau, DNM., and Dr. Saxon Heiler, MD., IMD.

Kořeny (cz), Stengel (du), Duilleog (ga), Fleur (fr) [KSDF], translates to root, stem, leaf, flower.

The medicinal culture of the community is in its approach to health care. The goal of the clinic and apothecary is to reduce health disparities in a responsive and respectful manner, adjusted to the needs of each patient. The highest quality plants and mixed mineral substances are always considered.

This method of medicine has been used throughout pre-European history and carried through the world with the peoples who traveled to and from her lands. Many of the remedies are home made, some mixtures are of local origins, while other standard cures have been tried and true for centuries. These plants, their mixtures, tinctures, powders, and teas are the original origin of all allopathic medicinal remedies used today. Though much of modern medicine has synthesized these remedies, we use original source for our cures.

There is a wide array of mixtures, potions, lotions and notions carried at KSDF including salts, scents, soaps, oils and creams hand crafted by a two of our residents Louie, and Yves Bouquet. There is also the opportunity to make an appointment for treatments and consultations, along with educational opportunities on the medicinal properties and life of the plants used, from root, stem, leaf and flower. KSDF is infamous for their Solomon Seal [Polygonatum] tincture, much which is grown on the property and on the edge of forest and around the prairie hills. The alcohol used is also distilled on the property. Many of the plants grow wild on our property, some are planted with purpose, those that do not take to our soil or climate will be purchased from a verified organic and biodynamic growers holding stellar reputations.

Cordwainer & Leather Book-Binding
Across the road there is a large two story house and a white lake cottage that is part of our property. As you approach these buildings you can smell the leather goods wafting through the breeze. Inside the home, on the 1st floor both the living room and library are occupied by the bookbinders. The Cordwainers occupy the three upstairs bedrooms and sitting-room. The dinning room has several built-in display cases which features the work from both shops. There is also a  beautiful walnut table to sit for a spot of tea, coffee or a bit of lunch. Off the kitchen though a breezeway leads to the garage where most of the leather goods are kept. In the basement of the home is where all the heavy tooling machinery and paper-making equipment are stored.

During the summer months some of the hand sewing is done on the large screened-in porch. There are several comfy chairs and a porch swing. This is a lovely place to work on a breezy summer’s day.  In the front yards there several large elm trees and providing both shade and sun, this is a great place for paper-making.

If you are interested in a pair of custom hand made leather or canvas shoes, a leather billfolds, or a variety of beautiful hand bags visit the cordwainer.

If you are interest in custom bound leather or canvas  bound books or if you have a your own leather design for a diary or cover this is a wonderful place to visit.

Classes are also taught in both skills on Saturday mornings for a period of 6 weeks. There is studio and workshop time available afterwords. The House keeps the holiday schedule as well as regular business hours:

Motel
A current proposal for the purchase of the Star Motel that is for sale up the road from the Swan Factory. This purchase will help resolve long-term visitor housing, especially for people who can ill-afford to move to our community for any length of time, and who wish to experience living here more fully before committing, or those who the elder recommend go through a probation period. It will also serve for like-minded people building their own community and wish to explore our role-models at length. Lastly, it will also offer refugees needing temporary shelter and work due to ruination by forbidden speech and wrong-think in the current system. It has also been proposed that several of the rooms remain part of regular business for truckers and travelers alike, to help pay for the upkeep of the building. Liquor, gambling and prostitution are not allowed and will cause immediate vacancy from the community. The motel also has a small diner that holds the possibility of running a local, open to the public, breakfast and dinner operation. the foundation is sound, the roof and heating system are new. Both, water and sewer are connected to the township, and the three acres of woods that are part of the property abut ours.
